North Central Regional Jail opened in August 2001. The regional jail is located in Doddridge County. The jail is a low-level security jail, under the detention center category. North Central Regional Jail is the eighth one to serve the state of West Virginia. There are ten regional jails in total. North Central Regional Jail is the second largest jail in the state. The facility is made up four buildings altogether. The jail assists nine counties which are Monongalia, Marion, Harrison, Wood, Wirt, Tyler, Doddridge, Ritchie, and Pleasants. The jail handles those on pretrial, convicted already, and federal prisoners. North Central Regional Jail provides twenty-four-hour care for their inmates. They have medical experts for those who need assistance or supports their time in jail. The regional jail allows volunteers to provide services that are religious and to help with Alcoholics Anonymous. The jail enables inmates to obtain their G.E.D through their educational classes.

The jail is used by different groups who help build the facility. The staff is directly within the vicinity of the prisoners. The jail is made up of two floors, a common area, and opened showers. With the including education, the inmates learn job skills and good habits during their sentence.

North Central Regional Jail is also a correctional facility. The jail has resources for the visitors who come down to the jail. The jail also has a juvenile center and facility. As a whole though, the central regional added a division to the already large prison.

The West Virginia Division of Corrects and Rehabilitation opened July 1, 2018. The correctional facility was under the department of military activities and public safety. When it became operational, it took over the juvenile services of West Virginia and the old regional authority. Before the opening, the entire public service departments, including North Central Regional Jail was overcrowded and understaffed. This parent jail of North Central Regional Jail also provides victim services. The services support those who have been a part of violent or traumatic events.

North Central Regional Jail has experienced three deaths within the year 2013. The most recent death was of a young woman who possibly died because she was diabetic. The inmate was in jail till she can go to her court hearing but it wasn't till around three am she was found in her cell. She was taken to the hospital where she was announced dead around four am.
