More Information

Stutsman County Correctional Center (SCCC) has the mandate of holding inmates awaiting trial and transfer to other jails. It is located at 205 6th St SE in Jamestown, ND. Stutsman County Correctional Center is a facility for adults, and it accepts inmates from other smaller towns surrounding Stutsman who do not have an independent lock up space. More often than not, inmates remain there for less than two years.

The jail receives new detainees daily, which poses the danger of overcrowding. However, it has various ways of managing them. This includes releasing the detainees on bail and placing them under supervision through a probation agency. The additional option is releasing them on their own volition with an agreement to appear in court when required. Those who portray change of behavior have the advantage of having their sentences reduced or cut.

Even though they are inmates, the jail has entrusted some of them with various roles such as cooking, laundry, and commissary and staff orderlies. This, of course, comes with a small amount of payment and sometimes a few days off their sentence. The prison is under the management of the state department of corrections. Its security is excellent with individual cells in the form of pods which have only a sliver of a window. It also has common areas and an outside recreation court. The common areas accommodate tables made of solid steel and an attachment of four seats.

Stutsman County opened in 1986, and it offers both onsite and online inmate visitations. For the former, the visits are done Monday to Friday and are limited to minutes. However, before making any visit, the visitor must call and confirm that their inmate is in that facility. Additionally, the visitor should also confirm the visitation hours.

Online visitation involves the use of video through Turnkey Corrections, and it is available any day of the week at prescribed hours. The jail has three Video visitation kiosks, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The jail monitors and records all visits which are subject to review when necessary.

Above all, this jail has a commissary which sells various products to inmates. Such products include shoes, books, food, clothing, shavers, soap, and other hygienic products. However, the use of the commissary is on condition that the inmate has funds in their commissary account. It is also worth noting that the facility has a yearly inspection by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This is for certification that it is up to date with the necessary rules and regulations.
