The Itasca County jail is currently located at 440 NE 1st Avenue, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, 55744 and is recognized as a class III detention center by the Minnesota department of corrections. It is capable of housing both pre-sentence and sentenced prisoners and currently running at maximum capacity. The Itasca county jail is divided by a binary structure, the first building was constructed in 1997 and is capable of housing up to 48 inmates. The primary facility, which was erected back in 1982 can house about 60 inmates at full capacity. The Itasca county jail provides inmates with basic provisions such as clothing, food and toiletry items. There are licensed medical staff available at the facility during normal business which provide medical treatment and coordinate medications for inmates. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday visiting are allowed for eligible inmates during listed visitation hours.
