Pine County Jail old facility was built back in 1983. The jail was created to watch over the inmates. It is safer for both the prisoners and staff. Pine County houses their inmates in three different buildings. The plans were licensed by the state of Minnesota.
The jail has three different parts to it. There is an Intake area that keeps all the current offenders until they are moved or the go-to trial. Other rooms of Pine County Jail are a recreational area, medical area, a place for laundry and other necessities for the inmates. The housing units have video visitation rooms and other average quality of life for the prisoners. Any money gained through vending machines or canteens goes back into materials for the inmates.
For recreational activities, the jail provided a sizable amount of programs to help inmates gains skills. The programs are sentenced to service, work release, therapeutic, religious, and educational for inmates to do. Self-help programs for inmates which include Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholic Anonymous, anger management classes and more. These programs are to help prisoners to stay active and productive in positive ways. Recreation time is seven hours per week. Educational classes are provided for those to earn their GED, learning skills and getting men and women ready for life outside of prison.
Back in 2003, accordance to the National Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), all who were victimized would be encouraged to talk to the staff. Any knowledge of sexual misconducts is to be reported to the staff as well. Pine County Jail has a zero-tolerance policy on acts of sexual harassment and abuse. Any sign or form of this will be investigated by the staff of the jail. False accusations on anyone is not tolerated; if one is to falsely accuse another prisoner or staff of abuse, the accuser will be held liable. Pine County Jail goes through an audit every three years under the PREA accordance. Three years ago, the jail went through their audit again.
A new jail was built in place of the old one in 2006. In 2008, the new Pine County Jail became operational.
