The Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Facility established in 2002 at former Louisiana Ammunition Plant also formerly known as the Louisiana Ordnance Plant or The Shell Plant, which was an inactive 14,974-acre plant to load, assemble, and pack ammunitions items.
This facility is a county jail and holds inmates sentenced in Minden and Webster County Courts and courts of other cities in the Webster County area.
It is operated by sheriffs at Webster Parish County. The $7.2 million facility was completed by then Webster Parish Sheriff Larkin T. Riser.
Offenders from the Police and City jails are transferred to the Bayou Facility after all paper work is finished. Offenders have to stay in the facility until they're officially sentenced, acquitted or released on bail. Inmates serving less than a year of jail time have to settle in the facility until further notice.
Majority of inmates in Bayou Dorcheat are convicted for misdemeanour offenses like drunk driving, fighting, assault, and theft. It offers amenities to the inmates like bathroom usage, three daily meals, education programs, and access to television. As well as providing work release programs and other specialized services.
