Natchitoches Parish Detention Center is a prison facility located in Natchitoches Parish in north western Louisiana. Most of the adult inmates at the Detention Center are post trial commitments serving medium length sentences that were too long for police department jails but not long enough to warrant transfer to a state prison facility. There are inmates housed as the Detention Center from surrounding towns and municipalities who do not have their own lock up. Likewise, the facility will accept inmates from the US Marshals and Ice when necessary.

The institution is run by the sheriff’s department. The Detention Center has a yearly operating budget in excess of five million dollars. Salaries for staff are in the two million dollar a year range. The majority of staff employed at the Detention Center are members of the Sherriff’s Pension and Relief Fun. It is a statewide public retirement system for sheriffs and their staff.

The institution in located in the central time zone. Visitors must be on the approved inmate visitation list. It is suggested to call in advance to confirm inmates are available to receive visitors. By doing so, families can avoid unnecessary travel and hotel type expenses. Visitation hours are generally 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
