Spencer County Jail was built back in 1993. The population of inmates held is on average 62, but has a capacity of 68. This law enforcement center is a smoke-free facility. There holds 13 correctional officers that watch over the inmates located inside of the facility. When it comes to visitors, two people are allowed to visit one inmate at a time and must be 18 year's of age or older. If under 18 year's of age you must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone is ID'd prior to your visit.

Commissary is also offered for inmate's which are delivered once a week. On the commissary sheet, inmate's have a variety of item's they could purchase like hygiene, drink's, candy, chips, art, clothing, shoes, etc.

For an inmate to purchase these item's, they must have money in their account which can be made through a money order.

When entering the facility, an inmate is allowed one booking phone call for free. They are offered three different program's that they are allowed to attend, which one of the program's can be beneficial if an inmate doesn't have their high school diploma. The class is called the General Educational Development (G.E.D.) course. Another class that is available is our Substance Abuse program. This program is good for those who suffer from drug or alcohol addiction. Last but not least, there is also a mentoring program available taught by Lay Minister's Whitney Ward and Ron Conner. These program's can be taken by any inmate that is interested, and is a big influence to attend to.
