More Information

This facility is under the watch of the local police departments where arrestees are detained for shorter periods similar to what Arkansas County jail does. The Arkansas jail is run by the County Sherriff. The security at the jail is tight and classified. The prison shares the facility with the police department. The jail is located in Stuttgart, and all detainees can be visited by friends, loved ones and family members during the posted visiting hours. Visitation at the facility is entirely non-contact which means the inmate is one side, separated through a protective glass while the visitor is on the other side.

Most of the detainees that are delivered at the facility are charged with offenses like highness or being intoxicated. Some are brought at the facility with injuries from previous assaults and fights which led to their arrest. Some of the detainees are mentally ill, and the police fall short of ideas of where to take them, so they land at the facility. Some of the offenders spend less than a day at the facility while others stay for a few days where they are released after court proceedings. Others are released after being placed under bail. Some offenders are handed community services where they are supervised by the court.

The Stuttgart jail is divided into what is referred to as pods. Then, there is a large area that is common for all detainees. There are steel tables and benches that are fixed together. This is to prevent the availability of easy weapon in case a fracas erupts among the inmates. There are two levels of individual cells. For a better part of the day, all inmates remain inside their cells. However, there are times when the convicts are allowed to visit the pod to play, eat, participate in table games like cards and also watch television. Inmates are not supposed to leave the pod unless they are paying a visit to the commissary, the recreation area or to the library. All these movements are under the watch of an armed guard.

All misdemeanor offenders are processed and booked at the Stuttgart prison before being transferred to other state jails based on their offense. At Stuttgart, once an offender has been arrested, the identifying process takes place at the facility. Paperwork including the details of the incident that they were involved in is checked and completed and then double-checked for accuracy. In case an arrestee had items, they are recorded. This includes personal property and money receipts.

Afterward, the detainee is screened to check their health. The person who undertakes the process is a qualified medical professional. Their fingerprints are taken and recorded. The detainees are to stay in the facility until their court arraignment. At this moment, the arrestee may be posted for bail, they may be bonded, or they may also be released.
