More Information
The Salt Lake County Metropolitan Jail is under the jurisdiction of Salt Lake County of Utah and is maintained and operated by the county’s sheriff department. This particular jail was founded in 2000 after the citizens of the city voted to replace the County Commission with a new form of government. This new governmental body went on to initiate the building of this jail in addition to a number of libraries and recreation centers. The SLCMJ is considered a medium-security jail, holding mostly misdemeanor offenders for less than a year.
The jail not only holds prisoners from Salt Lake City, but also from cities throughout the county. One thing it is known for is making contact with friends and family easy for its prisoners. At most jails, this is notoriously difficult and expensive. All of the jails in Utah have their own specific visitation rules. These calls make it easy for the prisoners to let their loved ones know the most current rules. Then these loved ones are better able to inform others who wish to visit their incarcerated friend or relative. At present, the jail requires that all visitors have a valid government I.D. and must not be an individual on felony probation.
Children are allowed to visit inmates but must be accompanied by a legal guardian. The jail is equipped with complete bathroom facilities, three served meals a day, an education program, TV facilities, and 2000 beds. If you need to know if someone is currently detained at Salt Lake County Metropolitan Jail, a roster of the current month’s prisoners is available on its website. This roster is only updated once a month so for the most current information call the jail directly. If this fails, check the Utah inmate search page which encompasses all the city jails in Utah.
The Salt Lake County Metropolitan Jail has honed the science of keeping its costs low. It is very proud of the fact that it maintains an abundance of programs that keep it from overcrowding. Its management fully intends to keep perfecting its services. They want to do what is right by both the community of Utah and their prisoner population.
