The Wise County Jail is recognized as a class II detention center by the Texas department of corrections. It is capable of housing both pre-sentence and sentenced prisoners and currently running at maximum capacity. The Itasca county jail is divided by a binary structure, the first building was constructed in 1976 and is capable of housing up to 40 inmates. The primary facility, which was erected back in 1856 can house about 48 inmates at full capacity. The Itasca county jail provides inmates with basic provisions such as clothing, food and toiletry items. There are licensed medical staff available at the facility during normal business which provide medical treatment and coordinate medications for inmates. Inmates may also request medical checkups based on symptoms and request an appointment with the on call jail physician.

Inmates are allowed phone calls during specific times of the day, based on registered phone numbers. In order to establish a telephone account one must call 877-618-3516, and keep in mind that all calls coming from wise county jail are collect calls. There is a kiosk available in the lobby of the jail which allows funds to be added to an inmates accounts and accept credit, debit, and cash. Medical services are available to all inmates regardless of their ability to pay for the services. Emergency care, regular medical care, and even dental care is available at the facility. A photo ID is required for any visitors over the age of 17, and visitors under the age of 17 must be escorted by an adult throughout the entirety of their visit. The primary purpose of imprisonment is correction and rehabilitation and Itasca County jail operates with the end goal in mind for inmates serving time in the facility. This includes coordinating with local organizations in order to provide education and counseling services to inmates.
