The current Terrell police station was built to be able to integrate all the city police services into one building. The planning for the building started in 2005, but everything, including funding, was settled by 2016. The new facility opened 2017.

Patrol officer William Robert Stout of the Terrell, Texas Police Department was killed by his own service weapon on June 5, 1980. He was sent to a noise complaint at a local apartment complex. When he arrived on the scene, there was a group of men causing the disturbance. One of the men knocked Stout to the ground, at which time his service pistol fell out of his holster. The man then proceeded to pick the pistol up and shoot Stout 5 times. The man ran but later turned himself in. He was sent to prison and was paroled. The parole has been revoked.

Officer O.V. Rosenbaum made a traffic stop in July of 1962. The person he pulled over assaulted him and Rosenbaum died of injuries to his head.

Louis William “Bill” Conradt was an assistant district attorney. He was single and lived alone. He started communicating with someone he believed was a 13 year old boy in a sexual manner. The 13 year old was actually a set up from the group Perverted Justice. They kept logs and recordings of the communications. The police were brought in when he cut communication. The district attorney received a request for a sting from Perverted Justice. The district attorney did not like that this request came from a civilian group. Eventually, there was a sting on the home of Conradt. He ended his own life when that happened. He had been in and out of the Terrell city jail for official business several times.

The Aryan Brotherhood jail gang made war in Kaufman County and the city of Terrell. One instance happened in 2011. An enforcer for the group by the name James “Wreck” Patrick Crawford went to Terrell to remove the tattoos from Jason Mask. Crawford kidnapped Mask's wife to have her take him to her husband. A shootout started between Crawford and Mask. Both men were injured and Crawford was taken into custody. Nick Morale was another member who was arrested in Terrell. He made phone calls in which he made threats to county officials. Several prosecutors were killed during the push to quell the violence.
