More Information
Silverdale Detention Facility is primarily for adult male prisoners above 18 years. The medium-security prison is located in the city of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. It opened its doors in 1984. A majority of the inmates in this prison are those serving sentences of less than a year. This is because their crimes are not usually of a severe nature. Tennessee Department of Corrections (DOC) is fully responsible for running and maintaining the detention facility.
The prison upholds a rigorous visiting schedule for inmates. Visiting hours run from Monday to Sunday. However, there is a strong recommendation for the visitor to communicate their intended visit with the prison authorities. This only ensures that you are in the visitor’s approved list.
The visitor must also have a valid government ID. They must be free from any previous criminal activities. They must dress well and without any see-through or sheer cloths. Security checks are mandatory for anyone entering the prison. Anyone below 16 years must be in the company of a legal guardian.
The prison provides calling facilities for those who cannot make it to the prison. The calls have an open window of 30minutes and can only be to someone approved by the prison. However, the receiver meets the calling bill. It could be cheaper if the receiver has a registration with a calling service.
The Tennessee prison may have trouble providing the prisoners with all the amenities such as toothbrushes, extra blankets, supplementary food, and a host of other hygienic supplies. For this reason, the inmate can receive money from their family and friends to support themselves with such items. Those serving longer sentences can buy things like radio or small televisions to use at a stipulated time.
However, the inmate does not have direct interaction with the money because it is put in a prison commissary. This is equivalent to a store which houses the funds; similar to a personal bank account. Anyone in prison is likely to feel lonely, and it is vital to show them love. The prison has approved various packages of gifts such as clothes and shoes which anyone can send to an inmate.
