More Information
This is a low-security prison that is under the jurisdiction of the city of Belton police department. The prison is operated and maintained by police officers based at the Belton department. The facility is typically used to hold new inmates that are brought from other areas temporarily. They are held at the facility before they are categorically moved to other county jails. Generally, they house inmates for shorter periods but in some instances, they may house detainees that have been sentenced to serve a jail term of less than a year. Most detainees are imprisoned for misdemeanor offenses like assault and drink driving.
The facility offers essential amenities which entail a three meal course and bathrooms. All the inmates are entitled to enjoy these amenities free and fair. Detainees from around the county or municipality are jailed at Belton Police jail. The security at the facility is very tight as police hold most of the criminals here where some are already serving while others await court rulings. At the jail, inmates are not accorded the same privileges of a city or a county jail. There are no privileges like mail or commissary. There are no phone call services for the inmates. In case of any movements, offenders are moved while shackled and handcuffed because many detainees attempt to do funny stuff. In case an offender lands at the facility, it will not take more than 72 hours before they are transferred to the next county jail.
The facility is quite strict when it comes to visits. Friends, family and loved ones can visit inmates from Monday to Sunday as from 8:00 to 3:00 PM. During federal holidays, visitors are also allowed to come in see inmates from 8:00 to 3:00 PM. There is strictly no phones allowed inside the facility. All visitors are to be searched at the entry point before they gain access. Visitors are not allowed to come with any personal belongings. All individuals interested to visit an inmate but are under parole, probation or undertaking other community corrections will have to obtain permission from both their superintendent and their supervisor so that they are assessed before the visit. However, the facility rarely accepts such visitations.
All visitors that are under the age of 18 years and wish to visit a family member in the jail must be in the company of a guardian or a parent. The guardian or parent must hold a valid government ID. At the facility unlike in other state prisons, there are no commissary services. However, at times, they are allowed to visit the store at least once a week. Only those inmates that have funds are allowed to visit. If an inmate has a job, their paycheck is deposited to their prison account.
