More Information
This jail was built three decades ago and has served as the primary correctional institution in Zanesville and the surrounding area. The state of Ohio as well as the city of Zanesville was looking to get a correctional facility to more conveniently house local inmates. Instead of relying on the state prisons to house local inmates, Zanesville administrators had a local jail built. During the past thirty years, Zanesville Jail has become one of the most valuable correctional facilities in the state of Ohio. It has gradually improved to become a modern day facility with surveillance equipment, modern programs and a robust building structure.
Zanesville Jail serves the state of Ohio at the county level. It is a correctional facility that focuses on housing criminal offenders who have been found guilty of a crime in Zanesville and the surrounding area. The inmates serving at this jail are fulfilling sentences for offenses that include drug possession, driving under the influence and assault. As a county jail, it has a moderate population which means that it is larger than local jails and smaller than state prisons.
This correctional institution is run by a staff of administrators. These administrators focus on supervising correctional officers and other staff members. They are also involved in addressing concerns of both the staff and the inmates. All of the administrators have a special role of coordinating programs in the facility as well as setting schedules for inmates to follow while they are serving their sentences. The administration is supported by a team of correctional officers who help keep the facility safe and secure.
Like all other jails, the inmates spend most of their time in their cells. While in their cells, they are able to sleep and rest on a bed as well as do other activities such as read books and write. When the inmates are allowed out of their cells, they are usually taking a shower, eating meals and spending time outside in the recreation area. They also spend some of their time talking to family members and friends who either call them or visit.
Zanesville Jail is built like most other county level correctional facilities. In terms of its size, it is around 30,000 square feet. The building itself is made out of very robust materials such as concrete and brick. On the outside of the building there are windows made out of glass along with a roof. This jail is also surrounded by tall metal fences in order to secure the building from intruders and prevent inmates from escaping. Inside the building, there are steel bars for the jail cells and tile floors. The size of Zanesville Jail is similar to most other county level jails in the state of Ohio and the rest of the United States.
