More Information
Established in 1987 by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Orient, the ODRC Correctional Reception Center has been one of the largest men's prisons in Ohio for quite some time. Like many other state prisons across the United States, the majority of the prisoners at the facility are held across a variety of different security levels. Throughout the past three decades, the facility has been upgraded on several occasions; much of this has been to increase their number of cells, as well as improve the overall facility. Because of the improvement that the ODRC Correctional Reception Center has undergone, it offers an extensive range of ways for inmates to speak with and see, their families.
This was done as there have been a variety of studies that have shown that inmates who are in contact with family and friends a lot while incarcerated have a lower risk of re-offending. While the exact reasoning of this is slightly unclear, there have been a variety of reasons, and possible answers suggested. However, that doesn't mean that inmates are given free rein when it comes to being able to speak to family, or when it comes to the majority of aspects in the facility. With that in mind, like the majority of other prisons and jails across the United States, there have been a variety of rules implemented for visits and contact. Chief among these is the approved visitor's list; this is something that the loved one of an inmate should check to see if they're on.
This is because an inmate must identify and approve visitors in advance; however, this can be relatively simply done and may take just a phone call between you and the ODRC Correctional Reception Center. Having said that, your loved one should be able to put you on the approved visitor's list at any point. The facility has also recently grown to help treat inmates' mental health issues; this includes the likes of mental health visitation and a variety of other treatments. Having said that, the facility has also been noted for the innovative ways that they help their inmates go back into the world after incarceration. One of the most notable of these has been the Fall Reentry Resource and Medical Fair.
This initiative was designed to provide inmates set to be released soon with access to the information and connections that they may need in the future. According to many, there were quite a variety of guests at the most recent event, which also hosted 250 soon to be released inmates. While the aim is to bring in providers from across Ohio, the facility focuses mainly on Franklin, Hamilton, Montgomery, Delaware, Summit, Wood, and Fairfield.
