More Information

This is a facility that houses adult women inmates. Back in 2011, Steve Hoyle Facility was closed by the state and turned it into the Madison Paris Sheriff’s department to run it as a correctional institution for women that are involved in crime. The facility was to house women from every corner of the state. The facility was to act as a house that would assist women in transforming from their criminal characters. Its primary objective is to remodel women to be better characters before they are reunited with the society.

Inmates at this facility serve short sentences. Inmates are housed in what is referred to as a dorm with each room hosting two inmates. There is a separate ‘workers dorm’ that houses inmates that hold job positions at the correctional facility. Inmates in this position have access to uncountable shower times, and it’s more peaceful compared to the general area that hosts the rest of the population.

The correctional facility has congregation areas that the inmates converge to watch TV. There is also an area where the inmates are allowed to visit a certain number of times to relax and see how beautiful the day is. Additionally, the jail has a commissary where the inmates can buy items like small radios, food staff, paper, batteries, stamps, etc. Inmates are also allowed to access a small microwave set up in the facility.

The primary goal of the facility is to offer inmates programs that will eventually alter their lives through the development and implementation of innovative and evidence-based programming solutions. LaSalle issues services and programs that houses, treat and return inmates to the society while they are better and well reformed. Apart from offering usual activities like telephone communication, outside recreation, and commissary services in the facilities, there are opportunities handed by the facility for the inmates to continue pursuing their education, develop vocational skills, participate in rehabilitative programs and also add an income earning opportunity while still serving their sentence.

The Louisiana Department of correction is the institution responsible for all the operations of the Louisiana Transitional Center for Women LaSalle. The department supervises the inmates and ensures that they serve the jail sentences that they are given by the Circuit or County Judge. Once inmates have been handed a sentence, they are taken through an orientation where the inmate is evaluated both psychologically and medically. The results of the tests will have everything that will have to do with their level of custody.

The inmates are notified that they are going to be denied freedom for a stipulated time. They are told that they are in prison for their wrongdoing and that they must strictly follow the conduct, rules, and order of the house.
