This jail was built forty years ago when the state of Louisiana was looking for a convenient place to house local inmates. Catahoula Parish Jail currently houses inmates who have been convicted of criminal offenses in the city of Harrisonburg and the county of Catahoula. During the past twenty years, Catahoula Parish Jail has been evolving into a modern correctional facility. It has made improvements in it’s polices, equipment, surveillance technology and overall facility. As a result, it is among the most secure correctional facilities in the state of Louisiana.

Since Catahoula Parish Jail is a correctional facility at the parish/county level, it houses inmates who are serving sentences for crimes committed locally. All of the inmates have been convicted of misdemeanor crimes in Harrisonburg and Catahoula parish. They are currently serving sentences for crimes such as domestic violence, driving while intoxicated, drug possession and assault. Catahoula Parish Jail serves as the primary correctional facility in the Parish and in the city of Harrisonburg.

The building is located on a 70,000 square foot lot and it about 40,000 square feet. Like all other correctional facilities, Catahoula Parish Jail is surrounded by large gates. The inside of the jail consists of large hallways with jail cells on each side and tile floors.
