History Of Prison Building

The prison of Stanford, Kentucky was first established in 1940. It was built with three stories and can accommodate up to 72 beds. The Lincoln County Regional Jail records almost two times as many inmates per day than it can hold because of the violence in the area. Back in 1878, the area of Lincoln County was infamous with the Lincoln County War, which included Billy the Kid who was a part of the mass killings and the conflicts in the area. As time moved forward the area became known as an area of many rivals and murders. Because of this part in history that many people held on to, became a perfect area and location choice for a jail to be built. Currently, as the inmate recordings are only getting larger, there is a need for additional surveillance and additional staff. Therefore, in order to manage the prison correctly, the county has invested into upgrading the prison to maximum security for the state.

1782: Lincoln County was robbed at court, it was a year that everyone will remember.

1878: The Lincoln County War was in full force, which made the area infamous with Billy the Kid and the mass murders that followed.

Therefore, in recent times, they requested funds to improve the buildings security and holding area for more inmates to be held.
