Douglas jail is located in the state of Illinois, Douglas County and the city of Tuscola. The prison is a medium facility, with maximum security under the Sheriff's department. Inmates range from low-level offences to violent crime like rapist and murder. The security facility consists of security cameras, reinforced fences with razor wires at the top and electronic detectors. Police guards are well armed and physically trained to protect themselves and inmates from violence's act that may result in injury or death.
A reinforced fence surrounds the prisons building blocks with razor wire in the top. The block is divided into pods which are further subdivided into cells. Cells windows are made of silver that only allows a prisoner to look outside and hold 2-3 inmates. There are common areas outsides for recreation that are surrounded by towering concrete walls. Standard tables are made of solid steels and four chairs attached.
Douglas jail holds both female and males inmates who have less than one-year sentences, unable to pay the bail or those are waiting for the court verdict. The prisoners are from Douglas court, Tuscola court and other courts in Douglas County.it also accept the inmates from the US Marsha and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Prisoners are fed a good balance diet three times a day and are given one hour for recreation. During recreation, they can read books, take a shower and also use cell phones. Visiting the inmates is allowed from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. -6 a.m. The visitor has to follow the rules and regulation set aside by the prison-like to be check before entering the prison and to be accompanied by an ID card for identification.
Inside the prison, there is a Commissary (is a store within the correction facility institution) that acts as the bank account for the prisoner. A commissary day is held once a week where they can deposit paychecks into their account. It also sales different variety of products like books, shoes, clothes, snacks and hygiene products like shavers, shampoos, soap.
