Volusia County Branch jail was named after a great community. It is positioned at U.S Highway 92 and equidistant between Deland and Daytona Beach. During this time the Florida legislature had divided Orange County. The jail is currently under the rule and maintenance of Volusia County jurisdiction. Most of the inmates consist of police and city offenders. The only way they can be released from jail is when the sentence period is over or released on bail. The jail only houses offenders for only a year or less than a year. Offenders are sentenced for behavioral felonies for example defilements, fighting, drinking while driving and other minor offences. Volusia County Branch jail provides the inmates with facilities like sanitation, a balanced diet which entails three meals a day and other social activities. During their free time, they watch television, and they involve themselves in sports.
The primary factor challenging the jail is the high rate of suicides. The jail has modernized computer cameras to spy keenly on the inmates. They also undergo psychological and mental checks up. Furthermore, they undergo workshops that help them to release stress. In these workshops, they can open up to trainers in case they have a problem. The prisoners don’t use stools or benches. The facility ensures there is an absence of eyebolts where inmates live. This is because they can be of great help to the inmates who want to commit suicide. It’s the correctional officer's obligation to monitor the activity of the inmates in the cell. They make notations and reports of each inmate.
The jail has strict visiting rules and hours. Sheriff department is the only office permitted to accept or decline to visit. Inmates should strictly be in their cells approximately 10 minutes before appointment time. Visitors are not allowed to carry any foodstuffs. A thorough search is done to ensure the rule is followed to the latter. Failure to obey the rule the next visiting date is cancelled.
