In this article, we will discuss the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp, California. The Office of Sheriff of San Joaquin County has been in existence since 1850 when California was still an “untamed frontier.” The Office of Sheriff maintains the jail facility, “John Zunino Jail Complex”, for San Joaquin County.

This jail facility has divisions consisting of the Inmate Housing and Security Unit, Work Programs, Community Corp and Inmate Programs. The Inmate Housing portion of the complex houses the “Jail Core”, “South Jail” and the “Honor Farm.” This is where the inmates are incarcerated and maintained.

In addition to the housing of inmates, the facility conducts programs that such as the “Alternate Work Program, Work Furlough and the Electronic Monitoring Program.” Inmates who participate in the Alternate Work Program, are allowed to work for various social organizations and receive credit for their efforts. The Work Furlough program allows inmates to attend their regular jobs and return to custody at the end of the workday. The Electronic Monitoring Program allows inmates to be in a home detention program, in which the inmate can stay in their home, but monitored through the electronic monitoring device.

This facility offers inmates opportunities to complete their education through the GED program and other vocational programs that provide education for entry-level jobs in high demand occupations. There are programs available that provide training in office technology and job readiness classes. Inmates may also participate in programs that train in life skills and ownership and re-entry to society. A library and recreation area are available to the inmates. Religious and service groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meeting at the facility for inmates.

This facility has the capacity to hold numerous inmates along with correctional officers and offer many educational programs to inmates to rehabilitate while serving their sentences. This facility provides a variety of ways to help the inmates in their custody and still provide a high level of protection to the public.
