INFORMATION

The Kern County Sheriff's Office, Detentions Bureau has an average daily inmate population of approximately 2,500 inmates. We receive approximately 40,000 new arrests a year. The Detention Bureau's primary Inmate Reception Center is the Central Receiving Facility. In addition, the Bureau operates two smaller receiving centers in eastern Kern County, and the Lerdo Detention Complex just North of Bakersfield.

On March 18, 2020, the Sheriff’s Office suspended public visitation due to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 Virus. Over the past couple of months, we have been able to reduce the spread of the virus within the facilities due to the implementation of extra sanitation, wearing of masks, and other recommended protocols from CDC and Public Health. Thanks to all of these measures, we are now in a position to re-open public visitation on a modified scale over the next few weeks. We will be monitoring this closely to make sure we do not experience any new outbreaks.

During this time, we will need your full cooperation in following the processes identified below for visiting at all KCSO Jail Facilities. There will be some changes initially, but hopefully we can get back to a more normal process as soon as possible. Modified visiting will start on June 6th. To limit the number of people visiting at any one time, visiting will be by appointment only. Here is how visitation will work at each facility:

Lerdo Justice Facility:

For members of the public visiting at the Lerdo Justice Facility, the normal process for scheduling an appointment may be used by following the link below: https://securustech.net/

Visiting hours will be Tuesday – Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

No children will be allowed to visit during this initial phase

Inmates will be allowed two adult visitors at their visitation session

Only one 30-minute visit per inmate, per week, is currently being allowed in the initial phase

Available visiting days are based on the inmate’s last name: A-F (Tue/Fri), G-M (Wed/Sat), and N-Z (Sun/Thur)
