More Information
This facility is a medium security detention center. The county jail is operated by the County Sheriff's Office. The facility holds inmates awaiting trials or sentencing. This facility accepts inmates from surrounding towns who do not have their own lock up. The people arrested are held until they can see a judge for arraignment. Sometimes they are released on their own recognizance or given bail. If they are not released they have to stay there until their court appearance. They will receive a bed and three meals. On occasion the jail will hold inmates from the US Marshall’s Office and ICE if necessary. This facility offers programs such as work release, work furloughs, house arrest and the ability to serve a sentence on the weekends. Overcrowding is a problem and because of it, there have a good behavior program. If an inmate has good behavior, they can receive a reduced sentence. Oftentimes an inmate has 30% to 90% of their time taken off of their sentence because of good behavior.
Pods divide the facility which includes a common area and outside recreation court and cells for the inmate. A dietitian provides the menu of meals. Tables in the common area are made of steel with attached seats. The inmates are allowed to play cards and board games there. The cells consist of a window sliver which allows inmates to see out the cells. The cells holds two to three inmates. Usually the facility is filled to 90% capacity but some days there is overcrowding. Due to lack of a facility to handle the mentally ill, the jail receives drunk or drugs addicted people. People with injuries from assaults and the mentally ill are also received at this location
Berean Prison Ministry, Center for Social Adjustment and Re-entry, Chicago Books to Women in Prison are a few of the organizations that support this jail
