More Information
Amongst the sultry scenes of the late 1800's was the cattlemen's wars and speaking from a historic perspective about the town of Holbrook, Arizona, the town was known as not the place for women to be or for churches to be built. The rough and toughness of the people in the town was known as an example of the 'wild west". There was very little law and order. A courthouse for some semblance of law and order was built in the town of Holbrook and in its basement, it housed a jail that housed prisoners waiting for trial. The jail housed a prisoner who was convicted of murder.
A sherrif had been hired. The sheriff mistakenly wrote letters to officials of the town of the hanging. Word got out about this invitation and the word spread from town to town in the entire country. The hanging of the prisoner was delayed for a month and then eventually was hanged He was the only prisoner hanged in that town. The sheriff wrote another note about the hanging, but the note was delayed and was received after the hanging. There were many sightings of a ghost of the prisoner walking through the courthouse and jail time by time. Noises were heard often and the slamming of doors was often heard.
