The ones arrested are usually arrested for charges such as minor misdemeanors. Such as being high and/or drunk. Also could have injuries for an assault that led to the arrest or a fight.
Those placed in the Fort Payne Jail are sentenced for less than a year seeing as it is a jail that only holds criminals for short periods. They are also only arresting withim the city limits. Visitation is only open during certain hours and is more often than not non-contact. Meaning they meet with a protective glass between them.
Security is a tight and classified as the Fort Payne jail building is also the center for the PD building. When someone is arrested everything in their possession is recorded including money, receipts, and anything else that is on the person. When being evaluated the soon to be inmate will get a health screening. They do arrest the mentally ill and keep them there when they have no other place to put them.
The county it's self recieved $47 A day per inmate housed in their facility. The facility contains a on site medical unit that is staffed with a nurse and doctor to meet the medical needs of inmates. Some inmates tend to stay less than one day seeing as people are detained daily they need to keep space available.
The jail is designed with a large common area and pods. In the common area there are tables and chairs that are screwed down into the floor to keep them from being able to move. There are individual cells there as well usually on two levels of the prison.
Most of the time inmates are kept in their prison cells most of the day. Sometimes however there are times when the inmates are allowed into the pods to play games and watch t.v and just overall relax.
