The Calera Jail is a city jail operated by the Calera Police department. It is a low to medium security jail under the jurisdiction of the city of Calera, Al. Calera is in Shelby and Chilton Counties. The city of Calera was organized in 1820 and incorporated in 1893. In 1885, crime was a serious problem which lead to city or town jails. Used as temporary holding sites for detainees, these jails provided a safe place for guards and detainees.

The Celera jail is a short-term facility where inmates are held pending trail or sentencing. The jail shares a building with the police department, patrol, and dispatch. The police department has an on-site fitness facility. The Calera jail has pods and a large common area for tenants. There are individual cells on two levels. The building is a newly renovated, state of the art facility. Recent renovations to the jail included a computer aided dispatch system to wirelessly send and receive calls to or from officers.
