More Information
The principal prison for Orange County, Indiana is the Orange County Jail. Bail, if permitted, is already determined by a preset schedule. Otherwise, the county magistrate determine's a new inmate's bail amount. If no bail is set, this could signify one of two courses of action. One, the newly incarcerated individual will remain in jail until his or her court appearance. Or, two, the new inmate will be set free on his or her own recognizance until the commencement of their trial. If the latter occurs, it is extremely imperative that the individual accounts for their appointed time in court. The individual also must not travel outside of Orange County until otherwise instructed while awaiting their court date. If the former happens, good comportment while incarcerated may result in time off, work release privileges, or both.
If anyone posts bail on the inmate's behalf and then the jailed does not appear in court on his or her appointed time, that person will lose that money or collateral valued at ten percent of the county's total charge.
Orange County Jail in Paoli, Indiana houses both male and female offenders; most serving less than a one year sentence. The jail boasts a maximum security campus with measures akin to a state's maximum security prison. The safety of the other inhabitants of Paoli, Indiana and the surrounding area is maintained by controlling the residents of Orange County Jail via the use of security surveillance cameras, electronic detection devices, reinforced fence surrounds with razor twirls on top, mace, well trained security guards employed around the clock, and the like.
Inmates are permitted daily access to three meals and a cot, plus telephones, books, hygiene facilities, a legal library, post delivery, magazines, newspapers, the commissary, and the like. The inmates may also use their window seats to take in the many happenings just outside in the Paoli Courthouse Square which serves as the town center. For instance, the classic car show of August 2018 held no shortage of awe inspiring, jaw dropping restorations of the vroom-vroom variety. Though exceptionally beautiful, it was meant for more than a spectacle; to raise funds for military veterans.
But inmates shouldn't get too comfortable. Fully recovered from the tornado hit of 2011, all renovations are designed to rehabilitate and never see an inmate again, not to encourage recidivism. Restoration was affordable beyond its late 19th century construction of origin with improvements further made to extend its original jailhouse housing of inmates since 1984. The canon relics have been relocated to other historic positions in Paoli. All inmates are held separated unto their pods of peers of similar ilk and particular mischief for security sake.
