The western region detention facility is a maximum private prison. It acts as a correctional prison for San Diego and towns within the city. It also serves as awaiting facility for convicts awaiting relocation to other facilities. The prison is run and administered by a third party selected by the state government. The correctional facility is residence to inmates having more than a year sentence. Most prisoners are those that have been charged with heavy crimes such as assault and murder.
Ever since the year 2000, the western region facility has offered custody services on behalf of the United States Marshall Service. The GEO Group runs the prison. The Geo Group provides services such as inmate transportation, medical care, security, food, and Laundry among others. The facility can hold about 700 detainees both male and female.
In the correctional facility, basic needs and equipment are offered to the inmates. This equipment includes stuff such as toothpaste, soaps, stamps, and access telephone calls. The inmates here are also treated with necessary medical care, three meals a day, internet and TV viewing area. The correctional facility has also made it possible for inmates to continue being in touch with their relatives and friends with either being visited or making calls.
Highly experienced persons run the prison. The supervisor, wardens, and the assisting wardens must have experience and expertise in managing correctional facilities. The staffs have high values of professionalism. They also conduct integrity and good ethics during on and off work. The prison facility provides training to its staff to equip them with the necessary skills to handle the inmates. The detention center staff operates in shifts to make sure that they offer the best services to the correctional facility.
The facility offers rehabilitation programs to reform the convicts. The convicts are also very heavily engaged in work inside the facility.
