PeopleFinders is a company which started as far back as 1988 and is based in Sacramento, California. The company is a good choice for those wishing fairly standard reports at a relatively cheap price. PeopleFinders will produce good quality if a little basic reports with generally accurate and up-to-date information. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and have actually won awards such as the WMA Standard of Excellence Award, as well as having a positive Trust Pilot rating.

PeopleFinders' reports cannot be used for lending, employment or tenant screening purposes as the company is not compliant with the Federal Credit Reporting Act. With this in mind, it is best to use the company for finding those you have lost contact with or for screening potential dating or business partners.

The background checks run by PeopleFinders contain the expected information regarding date of birth, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives, court judgments, criminal records, assets, marriages etc. although the information was a little inconsistent. In the trial, where three background reports were purchased and later checked by the subjects themselves for accuracy, there were incomplete phone number and email sections. They also struggled with marriage information, which is a common problem area in these searches. Overall, though the standard of information provided was pretty good and in one instance they found a company registered to one of the subjects which other report providers had missed. Given the low subscription charges and generally reliable information, PeopleFinders performed admirably.

One area where the company doesn't come out so well is in its non-provision of employment history or social media information. The reports are not presented in chronological order either, so customers may have problems finding the relevant information they require. The site itself though is easy to use and searches can be refined through the usual methods of adding in middle names, city, state and so on meaning narrowing down your search is simple.

The monthly subscription charge for PeopleFinders is $24.95 and single background check reports can be purchased for $39.95 each, which is around the average price. The company also offers a people search option for only $1.95. This will give you names, current addresses, phone numbers, prior residences, relatives, aliases, date of birth and age. Background checks, on the other hand, will give you the same information plus neighbors, property records, bankruptcies, judgments & liens, marriages & divorces, birth & death records, misdemeanors, criminal checks, and sex offender records. Any reports purchased can be downloaded for only $0.50. The company operates on the now familiar automatic monthly renewal basis, so if you sign up for a three-day promotional offer you must cancel your membership within those three days or you automatically go on to the standard monthly billing.

Customer service is a field in which PeopleFinders comes out really well. The company can be reached on its seven days a week telephone helpline, and also through an online form and email, and has received much positive feedback regarding the attentiveness of their customer service staff. This is not always the case in the background report industry. Most customer complaints concern billing but the company is one those which clearly spells out its billing procedures before asking for customers' payment details.
